Gene Crout has been playing, writing, performing, recording, mixing, mastering and producing music for over 35 years. Having worked for Interactive Game Developers, Cable TV studios, Broadcast TV networks, bands, artists, corporations and churches has provided Gene with a wealth of knowledge regarding music and audio production. He has been teaching, coaching and guiding clients and students for over 20 years now.
After dabbling with Drums, Voice and Trumpet, Gene found his first love in the Bass Guitar at age 11. He bought his first guitar at 13.
A Tascam 246 Cassette 4 track recorder quickly followed at around the age of 16 or so.
He attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fl and earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Theory and Composition in 1991. During this time from 1988-1991, Gene began integrating computers into his composition and production and used one of the first MIDI software sequencers available – 12 Tone Systems Cakewalk.
In 1993 Gene began working for Jones Digital Century as the first hire in their new Multimedia CD-ROM development company. As Digital Audio Engineer he produced audio for the Jones Telecommunications and Multimedia Encyclopedia, and both of Charlton Heston’s Voyage Through the Bible Interactive CD-ROMs.
1997 brought a brief stint at Valentine Studio’s in TCI’s National Digital Television Center (Now Westworks Studios at the Comcast Media Center in Centennial, CO) where he worked on the Sound Effects tracks and mix of the feature film Tiger Street for Alpine Picture and Oneiric Films.
1997 also saw the launch of Audio Digital, Gene’s audio production studio in Arvada, Colorado. At the time, AD was setup for only for Corporate Audio and Post Production, and served numerous early Interactive developers and designers, most of whom unfortunately did not survive the “Dot Com Failure” of 2000.
In 2000 Gene released his first Commercial CD, Exchanging Truth for a Lie, the debut CD from his band, America Gomorrah. The release of ETfaL brought many changes to Audio Digital. Upgraded and expanded technology enabled Audio Digital to begin working with more bands in the production of their CDs. CD Mastering became a feature service for clients.
In 2003 Gene Crout began working with his friend and colleague Randy George (Ajalon, Neal Morse Band) in producing the CPR Compilation CD series featuring Christian Progressive Rock artists from around the world. To Date, CPR has released 4 Compilation CD’s with music from more than 45 artists from around the U.S., U.K. and Russia. 2005 brought an expansion to the studio with the removal of a wall and an increase in square footage sufficient to serve a full band. Acoustic Drums were added and Audio Digital began full Recording, Mixing and Mastering services to local Colorado bands.
Today Gene continues to provide Recording, Mixing, Mastering and Audio Post services to clients like NBC Sports Group, Spring Mobile, GolfTec, The Highlands Company and more.
